Sora Field Four o’clock Supper under the lights

A long afternoon in an open meadow, one very long table, and everyone we love in the same place at once. We would be glad if you were there.

How we got here

Nine summers, one field

We met in a queue for terrible coffee at an outdoor cinema, and spent the whole film arguing quietly about the ending. Nine summers later we still disagree about it, which feels like a reasonable basis for a marriage.

Sora Field belonged to Elias’s grandmother. We spent the first spring of knowing each other clearing brambles from the far hedge, and we have been coming back every June since. It is the only place either of us pictured when we started picturing this.

There will be no formal receiving line and no seating chart you need to decode. Come early, stay late, bring a cardigan for when the sun drops behind the oaks.

The thirteenth of June

How the day runs

Nothing is strict except the ceremony. If you arrive while the band is tuning, you have arrived at a perfectly good time.

  1. 3:15 in the afternoon

    Gates open

Park on the grass verge, follow the ribbons up the track. There will be cold elderflower and shade under the marquee while you wait.

  2. 4:00

    Ceremony in the meadow

Chairs are set in a half circle around the wildflower arch. Twenty-five minutes, two readings, one song none of us can sing in tune.

  3. 4:40

    Drinks and photographs

Wander the orchard while the light is good. We will steal a handful of people for pictures and return them promptly.

  4. 6:30

    Supper at the long table

One table, everybody on it, dishes passed hand to hand. Three short speeches between courses, and that is all the speeches.

  5. 9:00

    Lights on, band up

The string lights come on over the dance floor and stay on until midnight. Flat shoes are quietly recommended.

  6. Midnight

    Last song and farewell

We finish with sparklers at the gate. Breakfast for anyone still standing happens at the barn the next morning.

Good to know

Details for the day

Three things guests ask us most. Full travel notes and the barn booking list go out with your confirmation once you have replied.

Finding the field

Sora Field sits at the end of a single farm track, signed with white ribbon from the lane.

  • Grass parking, free, stewarded until seven
  • Cars may be left overnight and collected by noon
  • A minibus loops to the village at 11:30 and midnight

Where to stay

We have held a small block of rooms nearby for guests travelling more than an hour.

  • Six rooms in the converted barn, allocated by request
  • A handful of village guest rooms held until April
  • Space for four campervans in the top paddock

What to wear

Garden formal, with the emphasis on garden. You will be standing on grass for most of it.

  • Block heels or flats over stilettos
  • A layer for after sunset — the meadow cools fast
  • Any colour at all, including white if it suits you

Will you be there?

One short form, one name at a time. If you are replying for a partner or children, add them in the guest count and tell us their names in the message.

Numbers
Your invitation names everyone we have space for. We cannot add plus-ones at the field, but ask us if you are unsure.
Food
Every course has a vegetarian version. Tell us about allergies and the kitchen will plate separately.
Gifts
Genuinely nothing. If you want to mark it, plant something and send us a photograph in a year.

Fields marked with an asterisk are required. We read every reply ourselves and will confirm with travel notes.

Questions

Asked and answered

Can we bring our children?

Yes, and we hope you do. There is a shaded den of blankets and books behind the marquee, and supper for under-tens is served at six so they eat before the speeches.

Is the field wheelchair friendly?

The track and the ceremony lawn are firm and level, and there is a matted path from parking to the marquee. Tell us in your RSVP and we will reserve space at the end of the long table.

What happens if it rains?

The marquee seats everyone, so nothing is cancelled and nothing moves far. We will simply hold the ceremony under canvas and open the sides when the weather clears.

Should we take photographs?

Please do, after the ceremony. During the twenty-five minutes of vows we would love every phone in a pocket so we can look out at faces rather than screens.

Can we stay for breakfast the next day?

Absolutely. Breakfast runs long and lazy at the barn from nine. Mention it in your RSVP so we know roughly how many eggs to buy.
